I’ve always thought of contouring as downing a bottle of bronzer and a bunch of sticky concealer to try and create the illusion of a jawline; it’s always been kind of like wearing a mask for me.
During Moody Lemon’s latest curation process, I was lucky enough to try out something that completely changed my views on contouring. I went from my typical heavy makeup to the Weleda Contouring Face Serum, and you may want to sit down for this! It is a serum that has been formulated with plant extracts and claims to lift and tone your face from within without having to worry about using any type of “war paint” to do so.
To be honest, it’s not going to give you that effect of a five-second surgical lift; if you’re looking for something like that, you may be a little disappointed. It is definitely something that takes a little while to work and has a very strong botanical smell to it (the smell is actually pretty potent). But the difference it made in my skin was really astounding!
In this Weleda Contouring Face Serum review, I’m stripping away the marketing fluff to tell you if this "natural lift" is actually worth your shelf space. Curious to see if it actually snatched my jawline? Keep reading!
Why This Product Caught Our Attention
The name Weleda is a legend in itself when we discuss natural beauty. But their Blue Gentian and Edelweiss range feels unique. It targets “mature skin,” specifically focusing on the loss of elasticity and uncontrollable effects of menopause.
What really excited us was the “Collagen+Active Complex” feature. Instead of simply sitting on the surface, it claims to boost the skin’s collagen volume by 60%.

Currently, when the world is full of synthetic fillers, a 100% natural vegan serum that promises to redefine facial contours is a bold claim we need to test.
Who It’s For (and Who It’s Not)
While I was doing the Weleda Contouring Face Serum review, I found that the product is a dream for those with a bit of “slacky” looking skin. If you've noticed your jawline isn't as sharp as it used to be or your skin feels dehydrated and thin in texture, then this product is for you.
- Best For: Mature skin types (aging 40s, 50s, and beyond) and people going through menopause.
- Not Best For: If you are in your early 20s with high natural elasticity, you might not see the "contouring" effects as dramatically.
Learning how to choose the right skincare for your age helps you understand why collagen-boosting products become so vital in your 40s.
Texture, Scent, and Feel
The foremost thing you'll notice is its texture. The product is lightweight, silky fluid that isn't sticky at all. It totally absorbs instantly. The best part is it's a happiness booster for someone who hates waiting for their skincare to dry before moving on to the next step.

The scent is classic Weleda: botanical and fresh. Since it’s so light, it’s the best answer to the question: Can you wear contour without foundation? Absolutely. This serum provides the skin with a healthy, hydrated glow that you might find yourself skipping the heavy base altogether.
How It Performed Over Time
When I received this bottle as part of the curation process for Moody Lemon, I must admit, my skin was ill-prepared. I'm accustomed to the high-tech, clinical scented serums which tingle the moment they come into contact with your face, whereas this one is different. It was "gentle." My first thought was, "Is this working or am I just going to smell like an expensive flower garden for no reason at all?"
Now, here is what happened week-by-week:
- Week 1: The "Wait, what?" Phase. The immediate hydration I received was very evident; however, I did not notice a jawline being "lifted." As a result, my skin had not adjusted to the botanical ingredients at this point - in fact, I actually developed a small amount of redness on day 2. I almost gave up on this because I thought it was too natural for my stubborn skin.
- Week 2: The Velvet-Like Texture. All of a sudden, the texture of my skin changed; it felt like velvet. I noticed that my make-up was not settling into those pesky fine lines around my mouth. I still wasn't "snatched" yet, but I looked well-rested.
- Week 3-4: The Discovery that Changed Everything for Me. I actually now believe. One day I was looking in the mirror and I noticed how firm my skin texture was. The area around my lower face felt tighter than before - it wasn't like I had a face lift or something, but my jaw and cheekbone areas looked sharper/defined.
I guess my skin just needed a little bit of time (about 4 weeks) to adjust to using the plant derived collagen. If you are like me, and used to instant chemical products, give it some time (I honestly cannot believe what I see after only 4 weeks).
Clean and Conscious Ingredients
Weleda doesn't play around when it comes to "clean" beauty. The stars of the show here are Organic Blue Gentian and Edelweiss.
- Blue Gentian: Helps firm the skin and soothe inflammation.
- Edelweiss: A powerhouse antioxidant that strengthens the skin barrier.
- Centella Asiatica (Cica): Great for soothing and boosting collagen synthesis.
A realistic assessment is essential to Weleda contouring face serum review. It’s vegan, non-comedogenic, and free from synthetic fragrances or silicones.
The Pros |
The Cons |
| I had zero time to spare on a complete skincare regimen (10 steps), this would be a huge plus for professionals like me. It absorbs so rapidly, I am able to go from the effect of "Zombie" to "Zoom" ready in 60 seconds. |
During the harshest parts of winter, if you have extremely dry skin, you will be feeling 'tight' after one hour unless you add a heavy moisturiser on top of this product. |
| I used it under my makeup and it serves as a skin smoothing primer for my foundation. When I wear it, I achieve a "lit-from-within" glow that makes people question if I recently returned from vacation. | At 25 and too impatient, I expected to have the results of a facelift in a bottle by Tuesday! You will not see true lifting results from this product until you have completed a full cycle of your skin, which is 28 days. If you are expecting instant lifting, you do not want this product. |
| It isn't an oil that slides off of your face in the heat - it feels like a refreshing glass of water on your skin. It is light enough to wear during the humid months without any threat of your face sliding off. | If you use too much (I am guilty of this!), you will end up with a slight sticky film on the surface of your skin, which will take approximately ten minutes to completely dry. All you need is one pump, do not try to get greedy! |
| We tend to overlook the condition of our necks until we start developing a visible neck crease or 'tech neck'wrinkles. This product is, thankfully, thin enough to easily run down your neck and not make the collar of your shirt sticky. | Skincare products are just maintenance, a serum won't help if you have more extreme or sagging skin; only clinical treatments will restore the structure of your skin. So, you're using your products as a form of maintenance rather than a structural change. |
| If you are a combination skin type like me (oily in the T-zone and dry on the cheeks), this product balances those two areas out and does not cause an issue with breaking out. | At 25 years old, my skin is still quite bouncy and youthful; to be honest, the "lifting" effect of this serum was much more apparent on my mom than it was on me. If you're young and simply want hydration, then you may feel that the promise of "contouring" is somewhat lost on you. |
Avoiding Common Mistakes
While using a contouring serum, how you apply essential matters. What are common contour mistakes? When using a contouring serum, application matters.
- Avoid rubbing too harshly or just applying product only to the centre of your face. Avoid downward motion while applying. Instead of rubbing in circles, use your fingertips to stroke upward from your eyebrows toward your hairline. This helps counteract the "gravity" that causes brows to look heavy. It’s also great for softening those stubborn horizontal expression lines.
- It’s very important to apply your mineral sunscreen after applying this serum when it’s completely dry. I noticed that if I don’t let the serum dry for at least 3 minutes, my sunscreen gets on my skin (the tiny white flakes).
- One common mistake in a skincare routine is to stop at the jaw and forget about the neck area. Your neck is typically the first area to display losing elasticity. When you’re applying the serum in an upward motion (fetching a little extra serum from your palms), follow your collarbone toward your chin.
- Because it’s so lightweight, it’s tempting to use three or four pumps. Don’t do it! Using too much can lead to "pilling" (those annoying little gray balls) once you try to apply your moisturizer or SPF on top. One or two pumps is the "Goldilocks" amount for your whole face.
The Luxury of "Slow Beauty": Price & Positioning
Initially, I thought that the price tag for the Weleda Contouring Face Serum was incorrect. When brands describe their products as having "collagen-boosting complexes" or "rare alpine extracts" (such as Edelweiss), it isn't uncommon to expect to spend at least $100 for said product.
With its retail price ranging between $27 and $32 (£32.95), this serum is what I like to call a "pocket-friendly luxury." It is uncommon to discover a product that appears so high-end, but does not require a payment plan. The cost of a couple of high-end lattes will yield an ethically sourced and B-corp certified using the best of nature—while respecting your skin and the earth. I feel that I've discovered a secret "cheat code" within the beauty industry: luxury results without the luxury price tag. Not only is it good for the environment, but also budget-friendly, and overall a complete steal!
Final Verdict: Who Should Buy It?
The Weleda Contouring Face Serum review conclusion is simple: if you want sharper-looking contours and a radiant, hydrated glow using only the power of plants, this is your new holy grail.
This product was tested by me (Moody Lemon-Editor), and it has officially earned a permanent spot on my shelf. This product is for.
- Someone who wants to Firm Up their skin without going for synthetic fillers or harsh chemicals.
- If you’ve recently experienced thinning, drying & slackening of your skin due to Hormonal Changes—this targets those problems.
- If you prefer not to have a 10-step skincare routine, this will absorb within 60 seconds so you can get out the door in a hurry.
- If you’ve recently experienced the formation of creases around your neck area from looking at your phone too much; this is lightweight enough to apply to your neck without leaving a residue that will stick to your shirt collar.
- If you need effective anti-aging without the risk of clogging your pores or causing excess oil production on your T-zone.
